Arguably the most destructive hurricane in history, Hurricane Katrina has hit New Orleans, Biloxi, Gulfport, and many more cities on the Northern Gulf Coast. New Orleans is still under water 2 days after landfall. The hurricane then continued its course northeast spawning tornados and heavy rain. Many lives have been lost and unfortunately, many more lives will be lost. The economies of Louisiana and Mississippi have suffered the greatest economic loss ever seen as the result of a hurricane.

Everyone was very supportive when the Tsunami hit the South Pacific earlier this year. Now, more than ever, our neighbors in the south need our help. There is near total devastation in the New Orleans area.
I am donating to the Red Cross. I hope many others from this board will too. If you cant give money, donate blood at your local blood bank. Or give old clothes, blankets, canned goods, etc. to a food bank.
Here are some sites you can visit for more on the relief efforts:
Finally, make sure your family is ready if a disaster were to strike. Please be safe. More info can be found at www.fema.org.
Please spread the word. Thank you.
If you do not have the funds to aid these relief efforts, then please keep friends and family of those affected in your thoughts and prayers. This will be a long process for many. Not only financially, but physically and emotionally. I saw a man describe his story on The Weather Channel. -- Holding tightly onto his wife in New Orleans as his house split down the middle. Her last words were "You can't hold onto me..please take care of the kids and grandkids, I love you." He hasn't seen her since.
Whether monetarily or emotionally, the survivors need your help. And please be safe out there if you ever find yourself in this situation. Take nothing for granted.
